Z3-MINI Questions

Does the Z3-MINI have a friction block?
No. The Z3-MINI has 1 rope guide wheel and no friction block. For descent, grip the rope control end firmly and slowly pull the release handle — friction is regulated directly by hand. For loads over 100 kg, the manual recommends adding a connector to double the rope back for extra friction.
How does the crash self-locking device work?
The built-in gearbox crash self-locking device is purely mechanical — no batteries or electronics. If the gearbox fails, the rope drives the sheave in reverse for approximately 10 cm before the device automatically locks the sheave and wedges the rope to stop descent. After activation, lower the load safely and retire the device — it must be returned to the factory for inspection or replacement.
Can I use rope thinner than 9 mm?
No. Rope thinner than 9 mm risks being pulled into the sheave mechanism (entanglement hazard). The Z3-MINI accepts EN 1891 kernmantel ropes from 9–13 mm. Never use UHMWPE (Dyneema/Spectra) or polypropylene ropes — they are explicitly prohibited in the user manual.
