The Z2 series is the original AWAH multi-function pulley platform. Key differences: (1) Z2 uses a friction hook for descent — you wrap rope around the hook to control speed; Z3 uses friction blocks and requires no pre-wrapping. (2) Z2 has no gearbox crash self-locking device — a backup safety system is mandatory. Z3 has built-in crash self-locking. (3) Z2 is not dust or water resistant; Z3 gearbox is IP66 rated. (4) Z2 electric lift turns counter-clockwise; Z3 turns clockwise. (5) Z2-A has an open side panel for loading rope without removing the connector.

The Z2 series locks via an internal ratchet mechanism. Unlike the Z3 series, it does not have a gearbox crash self-locking device. If the ratchet fails, there is no secondary automatic lock. A PPE-rated backup safety system (such as an approved rope grab or fall arrester) is mandatory when lifting or lowering personnel.

Wrap the rope around the friction hook in the pattern shown in the user manual. More wraps = more friction = slower descent. To descend: (1) push the release handle fully to the release position, (2) gradually unwind rope from the friction hook to reduce friction and start descent, (3) to pause, re-wrap the rope tightly and return the release handle to the locked position.
