AWAH-Z3 has dual locking mechanisms providing higher safety compared to traditional single-lock or synchronously-worn dual-lock mechanisms. However, no device can guarantee zero malfunction during long-term use. Regular inspection is essential to detect potential faults and improve safety.
How the Dual Lock Works
The ratchet is pressed by a spring and meshes with the gear — the first-level locking component. When the ratchet accidentally collapses, the rope drives the wheel in reverse. After falling about 10 cm (half a wheel turn), the built-in automatic locking component activates. The wheel then clamps the rope to arrest the fall.
Key advantage: During lifting, the self-locking flail block is not subjected to force and will not wear from long-term work. This is fundamentally different from traditional dual-lock mechanisms where two ratchets wear synchronously and may both collapse.
Critical warning: Once the built-in crash locking component is activated, Z3 can safely lower personnel or heavy objects, but must immediately be scrapped or sent for maintenance. The impact generates debris that may jam the flail block, and the spindle head hole may not withstand a second impact.

4 Pre-Use Inspections
- Gear and ratchet check: Rotate the pulley counterclockwise one full circle. You should hear an even tapping sound of 34 times. If the sound is uneven or fewer than 34 taps, it indicates gear deformation or ratchet locking failure.
- Lock check: When rotating the wheel clockwise, the wheel should be in a locked state. If the wheel can be rotated clockwise by even a small amount, the ratchet locking component has failed — stop use immediately and return to the factory.
- Flail block check: When shaking laterally, you should hear a slight clicking sound of the flail block hitting the shell. If no clicking is heard after rotating the wheel 1/4 turn and retrying, the flail block may be stuck — return for maintenance. Inability of the flail block to work will result in failure of the self-locking function.
- Hinge check: Pull the gearbox and main board — the hinge should move smoothly without jamming. A jammed hinge may cause the wheel to fail to clamp the rope, posing a risk of falling.
